Being a model

I think deep down every girl wants to be a model. Looking and feeling pretty is such a big deal of being ‘woman’. And truth be told, there is no such thing as ‘ugly’. The fashion world has embraced the quirky, ‘weird’ girls for years now. Being a model is NOT about being pretty. It is about knowing your body, knowing what your flaws are and playing with that.

My tip for those who really want to be a model:

Don’t think modeling is about being pretty and pulling a ‘duck face’. If you really, really want to be a model, it’s hard work. Learn, learn, LEARN what modeling is about. Study poses, practice walking, practice your posture. Watch modeling shows, Fashion TV, search the internet. Do not for one moment think you can walk into a photoshoot and things will just happen. It is not the photographer’s job to pose you. Know what you want to do before you get there. And don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t know if something is working.

Also, as I said before, modeling is hard work. Don’t think it’s all glamor. You will be asked to climb on things that scares you, you will be asked to move in weird positions that is uncomfortable. You will also be asked to walk in things that is so uncomfortable that you want to scream, and you will be required to walk long distances and do a lot of shoots to get the perfect one.

Best advice I can give you, if you really want to be a model, check your attitude at the door and give it your all. Have an open mind and willing spirit to give the client the best you can and you will get FAR in this industry.
